DRESSAGE TRAINING WITH JULIA WETTON
Julia Wetton is an expert in training and competing Holme Trakehners and has been doing so for 20 years. She was successful on our foundation stallion, Holme Grove Istanbul, to Intermediere I, training at that time with Ferdi Eilberg.
Julia has produced many of our young horses, having too numerous affiliated dressage wins to mention, including 2nd at the National Championships.
Presently she is competing our young stallion, the 10 yo Holme Grove Prokofiev at Advanced and Prix St George level.
For several years now Julia trained with Kyra Kyrklund, which was a tremendous experience. However due to logistics Julia now trains with her long time friend, Peter Storr. Peter and Julia were students together at Catherston Stud as teenagers, and have progressed through their careers in separate ways. After working together they discovered that they have independently developed a very similar approach and technique to training horses. This proved to be a very exciting new partnership when Peter agreed to compete Holme Grove Prokofiev throughout the 2004 season. The reason was that Julia and her husband, David had a lovely surprise in the form of a baby girl, born April 2004.
After riding HG Prokofiev only twice Peter commented, “ It’s great to be able to sit on a strange horse and be able to just get on and ride it.”
HG Prokofiev was very successful with Peter Storr in the saddle being 4th in the Medium Winter Dressage Championships, 7th in the Advanced Medium National Championships and 4th in the National Medium Open Championships. HG Prokofiev is coming home to Julia October 2004.
Julia believes that the key to success is correct basic techniques from the very first days of a horses training. We are delighted that from Jan 2004 she has been holding regular training clinics at Holme Park Stud, Northill, Beds. Provisionally afternoon/evening sessions (Wednesday pm’s) twice per month are planned at Holme Park in addition to lessons at Julia’s yard nr. Boston, Lincs by appointment. All levels of riders are welcome from grass roots beginners to seasoned competitors, with horses of all abilities. We can’t all be Grand Prix but we can all improve.
Sessions vary in time from 45 minutes or longer if the situation requires it, at a cost of £40 per session
